The Test That Won’t Come Back “Normal”

If you’re a parent who has ever heard, “Everything looks normal,” while your gut is telling you that something still isn’t right with your child, you are not alone.

We hear this from parents all the time:

“Her labs came back normal.”

“We’ve tried so many things, but nothing has really changed.”

“We finally have a diagnosis, but we still don’t have answers.”

There is something important we want every parent to know:

A normal test result doesn’t always mean everything is functioning optimally. Sometimes, it simply means the test wasn’t designed to measure what you’re looking for.

At Perfect by Design Chiropractic, we take a different approach. Instead of only looking at symptoms, we also want to understand how your child’s nervous system is functioning and responding to stress.

That’s where our neurological INSiGHT Scans come in.

Why We Look at the Nervous System

Your child’s nervous system is constantly receiving information from the world around them and coordinating how their body responds.

It plays an important role in things like movement, sensory processing, stress responses, sleep, digestion, and countless other functions throughout the body.

Think of the nervous system like your child’s communication and control center.

When that system is under stress, it can affect how the body responds and adapts to everyday demands.

This is why we don’t want to look at your child’s symptoms in isolation.

Maybe you’re dealing with:

  • Digestive challenges
  • Sleep struggles
  • Colic or reflux
  • Sensory processing challenges
  • Difficulty with focus or regulation
  • Frequent illnesses
  • Emotional or behavioral challenges
  • Challenges with transitions
  • And so much more

These symptoms can have many different contributing factors, and our goal is never to assume that one explanation fits every child.

Instead, we want to gather as much information as possible about how your child’s nervous system is functioning.

What Makes INSiGHT Scans Different?

At Perfect by Design, we use INSiGHT technology as part of our neurological assessment process.

Rather than relying solely on what we can see or what symptoms you report, these scans give us additional objective information about patterns of nervous system function.

And we don’t just look at the scan once.

We use these measurements throughout care to help us monitor changes over time and see how your child’s nervous system is adapting.

That means your child’s care isn’t based on guesswork alone. We’re able to compare their measurements and look at their progress throughout their chiropractic journey.

The Three INSiGHT Scans We Use

We use three different measurements together to create a more complete picture.

🌡️ NeuroThermal Scan

The NeuroThermal Scan looks at patterns of temperature along the spine.

Because temperature patterns can provide information about autonomic nervous system activity, this scan helps us identify areas that may warrant a closer look.

For babies and children, this can be especially helpful when we’re evaluating the nervous system in the context of concerns such as digestion, sleep, regulation, and overall stress.

💪 NeuroSpinal EMG Scan

This scan measures electrical activity in the muscles along the spine.

It helps us see patterns of muscle tension and how the body may be responding to stress.

For children, this can provide helpful information when we’re looking at things like posture, coordination, sensory challenges, and overall nervous system patterns.

❤️ Heart Rate Variability (HRV)

HRV gives us information about how the body is adapting to stress.

A healthy nervous system needs to be able to respond to stress and then return toward a more regulated state.

HRV allows us to measure one piece of that adaptability.

Over time, changes in HRV can help us understand how your child’s nervous system is responding and adapting throughout their care.

We’re Looking for the Whole Picture

One of the biggest things we want parents to understand is that symptoms are information.

Your child’s body is communicating with you.

A sleep struggle isn’t just a sleep struggle.

A sensory challenge isn’t just a sensory challenge.

A digestive issue isn’t necessarily isolated to the digestive system.

That doesn’t mean every symptom has one underlying cause or that chiropractic care is the answer to every health concern.

It means we’re willing to slow down, look at the bigger picture, and ask:

“What is your child’s nervous system experiencing, and how well is it adapting?”

That’s a very different conversation than simply asking, “What symptom are we trying to get rid of?”

Your Child Is More Than a Diagnosis

We know how overwhelming it can feel to advocate for your child.

You’ve probably spent hours researching.

You’ve asked questions.

You’ve gone to appointments.

You’ve tried different recommendations.

And maybe you’ve even been told, “They’ll grow out of it.”

But you know your child better than anyone.

If something doesn’t feel right, it’s okay to keep asking questions.

It’s okay to want to understand your child’s body more deeply.

And it’s okay to seek additional information.

At Perfect by Design Chiropractic, our goal is to partner with families and help you better understand your child’s nervous system through neurological assessments, chiropractic care, and objective measurements like INSiGHT scans.
